The operator of TeKotoba (“the Service”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how the Service handles information.
1. Camera video
The Service uses your camera video to help you practice signing. Estimating hand and body positions, recognizing signs and replacing your face and background all happen in the browser on your device.
- Camera video, images, and hand and body positions are never recorded or saved.
- They are never sent to the operator’s servers or to any third party.
- They are used only to show and check your practice, never for other purposes such as AI training, identifying people or advertising.
- Face and body positions are used only to recognize signs and to cover your face with a character. The Service never identifies whose face it is (no facial recognition).
- Your microphone is never used.
The camera runs only after you press “Start camera practice” and allow it in your browser. It stops when you press “Stop camera” or close the page. You can revoke camera access in your browser settings at any time.
2. Information stored on your device
The Service stores only the following settings in your browser (local storage). They are never sent to the operator.
- Display language
- Your camera “Appearance” (face and background choices)
- Whether you have finished the tutorial
Your practice progress (words and steps) is not saved and disappears when you close the page. You can erase the saved settings by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
3. Access logs
The Service’s pages are delivered from a hosting provider’s servers. As with most websites, access logs such as your IP address, browser type, access time and the URLs of the pages you view may be recorded automatically on those servers.
The operator uses them only to provide the Service, keep it secure and investigate problems, never to identify individuals.
4. Cookies and analytics
To understand which pages and words are used most and improve the Service, the Service uses Google Analytics 4 from Google LLC (United States) and Vercel Web Analytics from Vercel Inc. (United States). It sends the following information:
- The address of the page you open, the page that linked to it, and the date and time
- Your browser, operating system and type of device, and your approximate location (country, region and city) estimated from your connection
- Automatically measured interactions, such as page changes, scrolling, outbound link clicks and file downloads
About practicing and sharing, it sends the following. Practice comes with the word you were practicing.
- That you started practicing with the camera
- That the camera could not be used or stopped during practice, and the kind of reason
- That you finished a word, and how many of its steps you confirmed yourself
- Steps you confirmed yourself because the camera check did not move on
- That you pressed a share button, which page you shared (a word’s page or the home page), and the kind of destination (such as X)
Camera video, images, hand, body and face positions, and the details of the recognition are never sent.
Google Analytics 4 uses cookies (_ga and cookies beginning with _ga_) to distinguish visits and sessions. Their default lifetime is up to two years; you can delete or block them in your browser settings. Names, email addresses and camera data are never sent to Google. Google signals and advertising personalization are disabled.
The following page explains how Google uses this information. You can also disable Google Analytics with the opt-out browser add-on provided by Google.
Vercel Web Analytics uses no cookies. It distinguishes visits with a temporary value derived from connection information, which is discarded after 24 hours.
The Service does not use cookies or tools for advertising.
5. Personal information
- The Service has no sign-up or contact form and does not collect personal information such as your name or email address.
- If you contact the operator directly, your message is used only to reply to you and handle your request.
- Except as required by law, the operator does not share information with third parties without your consent.
6. Links to other websites
The Service links to other websites, such as reference materials (including local government websites) and the developers’ X accounts. Please see each site’s privacy policy for how it handles information.
7. Changes to this policy
The operator may change this policy when necessary. The new policy takes effect when it is posted on the Service.
8. Contact
For questions about this policy, please send a message to the operator, Yuri Nakanishi, on X.
