Effective date: October 21, 2026
These Terms of Service (“the Terms”) set out the conditions for using TeKotoba (“the Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the Terms.
1. About the Service
The Service helps you practice basic words in Japanese Sign Language with illustrated examples and your camera.
The Service is free to use. You are responsible for any data charges for your internet connection.
2. Using the camera
Camera video is processed only on your device and is never saved or sent. See the Privacy Policy for details.
You move your hands and arms while practicing, so use the Service in a safe place where you will not bump into people or things.
3. Recognition and learning materials
The camera checks give a rough guide to hand shapes, positions and movements. They do not guarantee or certify the accuracy of your signing or your level of skill.
Sign language varies by region, generation and other factors. The materials are based on resources published by local governments and others, but they do not cover every way of signing.
To learn signing properly, we recommend learning from people who use sign language and from sign language instructors.
4. Prohibited conduct
When using the Service, you must not do any of the following:
- Break the law or act against public order and morals
- Place excessive load on the Service’s servers or network, or otherwise interfere with its operation
- Access the Service without authorization, or attempt to do so
- Copy, republish or sell the Service’s text, illustrations or other content without the operator’s permission, except for private use
- Infringe the rights or interests of the operator, other users or anyone else
- Do anything else the operator considers inappropriate
5. Intellectual property
Copyright and other rights in the Service’s text, illustrations, images, programs and other content belong to the operator or to their rightful third-party owners.
Open-source software used in the Service is subject to its own license.
6. Changes, suspension and termination
The operator may change the Service, or suspend or end it, without notice.
7. Disclaimer
The operator does not guarantee that the Service’s content is accurate, complete or useful, that the Service suits your purpose, or that it will work without problems.
The operator is not liable for any damage you suffer from using the Service, unless it is caused by the operator’s intent or gross negligence. This exemption does not apply where the Consumer Contract Act or other laws do not allow it.
8. Changes to the Terms
The operator may change the Terms when necessary. If they change, the new Terms and the date they take effect will be shown on the Service. By using the Service on or after that date, you agree to the new Terms.
9. Governing law and jurisdiction
The Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The court with jurisdiction over the operator’s place of residence has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute about the Service.
